Maybe it's related: I find Lawvere's work on modeling things and processes as spaces (e.g. Categories of space and quantity, 1992), extremely useful. Also, stemming from his approach to toposes would be a specific way to analyze spaces described here: Generic Figures And Their Glueings, 2008.
