In general, Gurdzhieff's system does not fit me well for a number of reasons. But at least one aspect of it is quite useful - the emphasis on the multiple identities which replace each other all the time within one person. (I did not understand Pelevin's "t" until recently; it turned out that its structure was based on this model of multiple identities to a large extent).
In particular, when one works with mantras containing "I", it might be fruitful to try to omit this "I".
For example, the second version of "The Presence Process" by Michael Brown relies a lot on the following mantra: "I am here now in this". The "I am" was often a source of palpable physical discomfort to me, and I experimented with replacing it with "Presence is". But simply omitting "I am" works quite well too...
